TECHNICIANS

faq

You will report to the Entertainment Technical Manager.

All technicians will be accommodated in a double-occupancy cabin which includes bunk beds, closet, desk, TV and bathroom (shower, sink, cabinet, toilet). The cabins also have plugs for charging electronics and reading lights over the beds. The cabin is cleaned once a week by a member of the housekeeping team.

Your uniform will be provided to you onboard. It is your responsibility to keep it in presentable condition and to take it with you for future contracts. Technicians are allowed to purchase their own pants and shoes as long as they abide by the same guidelines as those provided onboard. Carnival will reimburse for shoes.

Extra duties aside from your standard role will include port manning and various safety trainings and drills.

No, but you will receive time off each day to relax and often extended time on port days to explore the ports of call.

Depending on your position there are certain tools you will need. Lighting and audio techs need to bring their own tools; there is a tool list provided in the welcome letter with suggestions. Broadcast, backstage and automation techs have all the tools they need onboard. We suggest that all techs bring a multi-tool, flashlight and headlamp.

For positions who train at Carnival Studios, you will receive your normal wage during the rehearsal time.

Housing and travel is fully covered and a food per diem of $25 per day will be added to your paycheck during the rehearsal period. Luggage costs will be reimbursed once onboard your assigned ship.

Backstage, audio and automation technicians spend time training at Carnival Studios prior to handover onboard with the outgoing technician. Lighting, LES, and Broadcast technicians will train onboard.

Contracts are typically 6-7 months long.

Contracts are renewable after a passing evaluation is received; team members do need to take a vacation in between contracts.

Carnival provides technicians the opportunity to complete industry trainings and certifications. These are part of a tiered program which is tied to pay increases. Technicians can also be considered for management positions onboard after a successful period of time.
